Hello readers. As we close 2023, here is a short post about communication. In the fast-paced world of business, effective communication is key to achieve business success. One area most of us can improve on is closing open loops. An open loop is an open task that needs to be completed. If you’re assigned a task, it’s critical to provide feedback to the project manager and anyone on the team that needs to be aware of an update, issue, or that the task is complete. I personally spend several hours a week following up on open loops which include unanswered emails and chats. I plan to provide training on this topic in 2024 with my teams.
I recently listened to a Tim Ferriss podcast with Sam Corcos who is the CEO of Levels. Sam stated, “A lack of communication is a lack of performance.” I couldn’t agree more! How well you executed an assignment is not separate from your communication during the assignment. If you don’t communicate effectively or in a timely manner, the team and project suffer from your lack of performance. There are various methods and tools to help you communicate. It’s a matter of taking the time and effort to do so.
Have a safe and happy New Year everyone!
